  • About MyPOI

MyPOI is a java application than can help you create POI files that can be used in various GPS navigator software, such as tomtom, garmin, mapopolis, ocn

For a list of supported format, check here.

It is easy and convenient to use.

Download it from here (20k java jar file). (built 2006.2.28.600p)

For a version support UK and Canada search, please check news in our forum

After download it, double click it to run (you need not install it) if you already have Java installed.

If you find the downloaded file is saved as mypoi.zip, rename it to mypoi.jar first.

If you don't have Java installed, download it from Sun and follow instructions to install it.

I only have tested it on pc. If you have other systems, you need find out how to run jar file on them.

Currently, if you want to use it with other gps software, you can save the POI file to text format and use other tools to convert it. If you know the data format for other gps software, email me at socialnetwork at gmail dot com and I can add those data format support when I have time.

How to add a POI database to a TomTom Navigator map

After you run mypoi.jar and do the search and "save to tomtom format". Two files are generated in the same folder. * a file with extension OV2 (e.g. pizza.ov2) * a companion file with extension BMP (e.g. pizza.BMP) To make such databases visible on a TomTom Navigator map, make sure of the following: * Copy these file(s) to the same directory on your Pocket PC where the map data are located. * TomTom Navigator (re)opened the map after the OV2 file was put there (if necessary, restart TomTom Navigator). * In the POI tab of your TomTom Navigator preferences, make sure "Display POI" option is checkmarked, as well as the POI themselves. Example: to use the database pizza.OV2 in the "northeast" map, you might do the following: Connect your Pocket PC to the PC and start Microsoft ActiveSync®. Use the menu option File ---> Explore to explore the directories on your Pocket PC. Browse to the directory \Storage Card\northeast (or other places that you put the map data) If necessary, re-start the TomTom Navigator application (using the TomTom Navigator menu option "Exit"). Finally, in the POI tab of your TomTom Navigator Preferences, make sure "Pizza" has a checkmark - otherwise the hotels will not be displayed on your screen. Even if you do not display them on your screen, you can now "navigate to" a Hilton Hotel, find the Hilton Hotels near your location etc. If you experience problems, here are some possibilities: * the OV2 file is not in the same directory as the map * the OV2 file does not contain any POI, or at least no POI within the borders of the map * you are using a TomTom Navigator version older than version 1.50
